The two "black boats" (ECLIPSE and MASQUERADE) in the background head left for the Block Island shore for the lift and current relief. Going upwind, left proved to be right for the first two days of the regatta. That appears to be PEEKABOO going right in the foreground. That's Terry Laughren's WINGED VICTORY with a safe leeward on MASQUERADE and EQUINOX going to weather.
Don Priestly's crew on WET PAINT has the chute up and drawing before he clears the weather mark. Linc Mossup tries a risky port tack approach to the weather mark. Linc Mossup's black CAT CAME BACK leads two other "black boats" around the weather mark. Following are MASQUERADE and ECLIPSE.
Andy Skibo's PLUM CRAZY is in hot pursuit of PHANTOM in a rare beam reach. Look at those beautiful clouds! Rounding the leeward mark, from right to left, are CATAMOUNT, RIGADOON, PHENIX, AND EQUINOX.
In the last rounding of the last race on Friday, HIJINX is already around the leeward mark while four others jockey for position. That's ECLIPSE and KIMA coming in on starboard jibe with CAPRICORN III ahead of PEEKABOO on port. This looks like one of the rare days that the Race Committee gave us a long line. Hardly looks crowded at all in this photo.
CURLEW hardens up to try to get on the air of CAT CAME BACK. The crew of KIMA prepares to raise their spinnaker in light stuff.
