Jim Sorensen's Wet Leopard finished first (19 points) in a fleet of 22 boats at the Sailing World NOOD Regatta, hosted by the Larchmont Yacht Club. | 12.Sept.02 | The J/105 fleet at the Sailing World NOOD Regatta has 17 entries, with a few more likely. The event is being held at the Larchmont Yacht Club from Friday through Sunday, Sept. 6-8. This will be followed by the Greenwich Cup and American Yacht Club Fall Regattas for a complete month of racing! Seven boats participated in the match racing event hosted by the American Yacht Club on August 17th. The weather was hot and the winds were light in the morning and disappeared completely after lunch, so only 12 of the scheduled 21 matches were contested. Boats engaged the twice-around W/L course with close maneuvering and a close eye on the match racing rules as well. In the latter races, the legs were shortened to just 0.2 nm in hopes of completing as many rounds as possible. That also afforded excellent views of the action for all boats in the race area. Everyone was dissappointed with the abbreviated schedule, but greatly enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this different type of racing. The winner was Hilaria (Florence/Schulz-Heik) with 3 points and no losses. Odyssey (Spentzos) and Eclipse (Emery) tied for second place with 2 points. The complete list of scores is found in the results section. We all look forward to continuing this type of event next year with more boats and more matches. | |
