All:

I have included you on this mailing because at one point in time you expressed interest in participating in the above. We are getting fairly well along in the planning of this event; and frankly I think it will be one of the best regatta I have ever attended (I might be slightly biased). California Yacht Club is really putting together a great combination of on-the-water competition and off the water social activities. I really think there is the possibility of this being the best attended event in the Class history. We have established a goal of 65 boats for the event!

The NOR is available at www.calyachtclub.com, just follow the link on the home page.

The proposed schedule is as follows:

Sat: Aug 26, 2006  0900 hours No-host sailors breakfast

1300 hours Championship Races #5 & #6; Post race refreshment on the docks

1900 hours Hosted Dinner Banquet & Party, Tented Pool Patio

Sun: Aug 27, 2006  0900 hours No-host sailors breakfast

1300 hours Championship Race #7

1600 hours Hosted Awards Party, Tented Pool Patio

Those of you that have not raced in Santa Monica Bay before may not realize that the sea breeze takes a while to fill in so that is the reason for the late starts, but as you can see they intend to keep us out there for a while with two long races each day. Once the breeze does fill in it is a steady 10 to 12 knots. It’s racing in t-shirts and shorts, SoCal style!

This event should not just be about the competition though. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow J105er’s from all over the continent. Cal Yacht Club is never out done when it comes to the social side of things:

Food-Beverage:  No-host sailors breakfast each race day in tent, Thursday through Sunday of North Americans. This breakfast will be a low cost buffet for competitors in the tent. Beer and light hors d'oeuvres (guacamole & chips) will be provided after each race day on the docks when boats arrive from course. A Friday “Taco Construction buffet” will be presented under the tent (cost to be included as part of the entry fee for six (6) crew per boat). A Saturday pasta buffet dinner will be presented under the tent (cost to be included as part of the entry fee for six (6) crew per boat). Tickets will be available for sale for significant others. The Sunday afternoon awards party will be scheduled before competitors hit the road. Complimentary heavy hors d’oeuvres and beer/wine will be served.

Welcome Party: Wednesday welcome party with hors d'oeuvres, hosted beer, and no-hosted cocktails on the front lawn under the flagpole at 1900 hours just after the practice racing. No special opening ceremony procedures are desired, just a couple brief welcome speech by ranking Class officials, the PRO, jury introduction, and then food/beverage

As you can see they plan to really pack the week with events at the Club itself. For any one that might want to bring family Marina del Rey is right next to Santa Monica and Venice Beach; Hollywood and Universal Studios is just a short drive away as well so there is lots to do while we are on the water.

There are at least four hotels within walking distance; but for more information on housing you would be smart to contact Karen Yingling (Karen@jconcierge.com), she has reserved blocks of room in advance and negotiated pretty good rates.

I am sure I have missed something, so please do not hesitate to ask. As we move along I will start naming names of those that are serious about attending, and address other issues as they arise. If you know of anyone who is considering making the trip let me know; 65 boats that’s the goal! So come play in LA!

Regards,

Tom Carruthers
