Key West Sailors & friends:
Believe it or not I'm a month behind last year in getting out my first update for Key West. If you haven't thought about it yet, you ought to be thinking about it. In an attempt to get my 2004 list started, I'll assume that all the 2003 boats are returning. Please tell me if you are definitely NOT planning to attend. If you are on my mailing list (but did not attend in 2003) and are considering the trip down (or if you know of someone new considering the regatta), please tell me so I can add you the list of potential entrants.
MASQUERADE, ECLIPSE, GUMPTION3, MAX POWER, TRUE BALANCE, PLANET B, CYAN-KINCSEM, HOT WATER, FLAME, ZUNI BEAR, MESSY JESSY, REVELATION, WET LEOPARD, ABSOLUTELY!, WET PAINT, GONZO, GIGI, DEAD ON ARRIVAL, CARESS, VITESSE EXTREME, PUFFIN, HAZE III, IT WASN'T ME, PAPERMOON, SAVASANA, NO FACE 2 FACE, CHARSAR, GHOST, and RUM AT SIX.
Peter Craig will have the latest event information at http://www.Premiere-Racing.com/. I'll try to gen up the J/105 web page real soon.
As always, let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy the rest of your summer racing!

Subject: Key West Race Week 2004, Update #2
Key West Sailors & friends:
The Key West 2004 page is open for business:
http://www.j105.org/KWRW2004/
The National Executive Committee confirmed at its July 28 conference call that
the event will (for the second year) be run strictly by National Rules. In particular,
remeber that there will be a weight limit of 1045 lbs and no charters except
to owners and potential owners with a deposit on a boat. It will be a Level
A event (at most one Group 2 on your crew). Check the website for other key
rules.
The ExCom also endorsed trying to get a "Southern Circuit" started,
but left it up to the "east coast" fleets to decide whether that would
include SORC and/or Charleston Race Week. If you have any opinions on this please
get back to me. See the special offer from Charleston below.
My list now includes the following 34 boats:
MASQUERADE, ECLIPSE, GUMPTION3, MAX POWER, TRUE BALANCE, HOSS, PLANET B, CYAN,
UNBRIDLED, HOT WATER, FLAME, ZUNI BEAR, MESSY JESSY, REVELATION, WET LEOPARD,
ABSOLUTELY!, KINCSEM, WET PAINT, NBX, GONZO, GIGI, DEAD ON ARRIVAL, CARESS,
VITESSE EXTREME, PUFFIN, HAZE III, IT WASN'T ME, PAPERMOON, SAVASANA, NO FACE
2 FACE, CHARSAR, GHOST, and RUM AT SIX, MACK DADDY.
HOSS will be returning from Ft. Worth. NBX will be coming from Toronto. MACK
DADDY is expected from LIS. And UNBRIDLED is a possibility from Lake Erie. Please
keep me informed if you spot any changes that ought to be made. Most of the
changes come by "word of mouth" rather than appeals on the website.
As always, let me know if you have any questions. I'll try to have confirmed
dates for SORC and CRW for next time.

Here is a special offer from Charleston Boatworks for boats working north:
From: "Edward Parker"
Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 13:33:50 -0400
The tentative dates for next year's event are April 15-18, 2004. Charleston
Boatworks
and J Boats South are willing to offer the following for any boat participating
in
Chas Race Week. We will launch, haul, step, and unstep the mast for $300.00
provided
the boat supplies the crew to do all prep work for launch and rig tuning. The
boat must
also supply crew to take everything apart and pack it up. If anybody wants us
to do this
they must contact John Spence at Charleston Boatworks 843-554-7775 or
john.spence@charlestonboatworks.com to make arrangements.
We will store boats from either Key West or SORC for free providing they are
on a trailer.
Any boats needing Jack Stands will be $100 a month. These storage rates are
good only for
boats racing in Charleston Race Week. These charges are also good for one week
after Race
Week is over then the regular charges will apply.
I also have discounted dockage for you guys at Charleston Harbor Marina. The
marina is the
closest to the racing and only a 10 min drive from the party. It also features
a very nice
Hilton Hotel and Resort for you guys to stay in. The normal rate is $1.35 a
foot and they
are willing to go to $1.00 a foot if you guys get at least 10 boats there. Not
a huge
savings but it helps. Please keep in touch and let me know how all of this shakes
out and
if I can be of any more assistance.

MASQUERADE, ECLIPSE, GUMPTION3, MAX POWER, PHANTOM, BLUE MAX,
WALLOPING SWEDE, TRUE BALANCE, RAPID TRANSIT,
HOSS, PLANET B, CYAN, UNBRIDLED, HOT WATER, FLAME, ZUNI BEAR,

SAVASANA, NO FACE 2 FACE, CHARSAR, GHOST, RUM AT SIX,
MACK DADDY.
I just received my NOR and entry application from Premiere Racing.
If you did not receive them in the mail, just go to
premiere-racing.com. It appears that we will again be racing with
the Melges 24s and the J/80s in Division 3, just east of the shipping
channel. The entry fee for J/105s is $675 (you round down to the
nearest foot).
There are, as always, a number of owners who are anxious to get on
boats and to share expenses (including yours truly). There is never
a shortage of people who want to crew. If you want to be on a boat,
but cannot bring yours down, please let me know, so I can share your
name with people looking. Experienced owners are often a big help to
programs headed to Key West for the first time.
In the last couple of years we have not had an owners event other
than the face time at the JBoats tent. If anyone is interested in
organizing a party or a dinner, please step forward to volunteer. It
could be something at your condo or we could take over a restaurant
for one evening.

Your planning for Key West should be well underway by now.
I've weeded my list a couple times with the "opt out" strategy and
we still have 36 boats on the list. Now it's time for the "opt in"
strategy. The list on the web site contains ten boats that have already confirmed.
So here are the confirmed as well as the boats that are on the fence or who
I have not heard from either way. If you are on the second list, please give
me a quick reply to update me with your current status.
The ten listed as "confirmed":
GUMPTION3, PLANET B, CYAN, WET LEOPARD, KINCSEM, WET PAINT, NBX, PAPERMOON,
NO FACE TO FACE, MACK DADDY.
The other 26:
MASQUERADE, ECLIPSE, MAX POWER, PHANTOM, BLUE MAX, TRUE BALANCE, RAPID TRANSIT,
HOSS, UNBRIDLED, HOT WATER, FLAME, ZUNI BEAR, REVELATION, ABSOLUTELY!, GONZO,
GIGI, DEAD ON ARRIVAL, CARESS, PUFFIN, HAZE III, IT WASN'T ME, VITESSE EXTREME,
SAVASANA, CHARSAR, GHOST, and RUM AT SIX.
Kevin Grainger of GUMPTION3 has volunteered to help plan an event during the
week. If you have ideas or wish to help, please contact him at Kevin.Grainger@barclayscapital.com.
Jeff Goff is trying to introduce himself to the group as a fully insured boat
hauler. See his e-mail to us below. I'll also leave it on the website with the
"brochure".
According to a recent J/105 Quickpoll, the number of people who want more rules
enforcement at events like Key West outnumber the people who want less enforcement
by a factor of five (about one third want to keep it the same). So we'll step
it up a notch this year. Steve Tedeschi has already volunteered to help because
he will be there the weekend before the event, but is not racing this year.
Be ready to send in your paperwork. Any other helpers out there?
Wouldn't it be great if we could put together a group of owners to charter a
boat? There appears to be enough interest, but nobody to lend their boat as
of yet. Here are some experienced owners who want to sail.
Richard Walker, Fleet #10 (New Jersey), owner of MERLIN.
Tom Rolfes, Fleet #23 (Maine), owner of SIDEWINDER.
Nelson Weiderman, Fleet #14 (So. NE), owner of KIMA.

I've been dropping (HOSS, RAPID TRANSIT, NBX, CARESS) and adding (ADDICTION,
PIPPIN, STARCROSS). I now have 31 "confirmed" (ten are listed as already
entered on Premiere-Racing's list) and four still possible as follows:
The 31 "confirmed":
MASQUERADE, ECLIPSE, GUMPTION3, ADDICTION, MAX POWER, PHANTOM, BLUE MAX, PLANET
B, CYAN, UNBRIDLED, FLAME, ZUNI BEAR, REVELATION, WET LEOPARD, ABSOLUTELY!,
KINCSEM, WET PAINT, STARCROSS, GIGI, DEAD ON ARRIVAL, PAPERMOON, PUFFIN, IT
WASN'T ME, VITESSE EXTREME, SAVASANA, CHARSAR, GHOST, and RUM AT SIXNO FACE
TO FACE, MACK DADDY.
Still "possible":
TRUE BALANCE, HOT WATER, GONZO, HAZE III.
I'll use this update to do a refresher on the key rules so you don't get down
to Key West and find out you cannot race.
1. Weight limit -- 1045 pounds. Premiere-Racing will be doing the weigh-in and
they will not score you unless you make weight.
2. Pros -- This is a "Level A" event. That means at most one pro aboard.
If that pro is Group 3 he/she must be both the sole owner and the driver. Special
note: all the US Sailing classifications expire at the end of December 2003.
If you have ANY DOUBT AT ALL about your classification, apply on-line with ISAF
at http://sailing.org/isafsailor/. Don't arrive at Key West with people questioning
the classifications of your crew!
3. Floatlines -- You must have floatlines applied and a certificate signed and
certifying that your boat floats to its lines. Corrector weights must be "glassed
in".
4. Safety Equipment -- What the Class requires is specified in Exhibit 7.3 of
our Rules. What Premiere-Racing requires is contained in the document "2004
Special Equipment and Safety Regulations" and is available on their web
site at http://www.premiere-racing.com/keywest/2004_KW/kw_2004_documents_and_forms.htm.
5. You will be required to fill out on-line forms for crew and sails at a later
date.
On a more pleasant note, we will be initiating a special award for a "Southern
Circuit" which will include Key West Race Week, SORC, and Charleston Race
Week. To make it simple we will just add up the best ten races for those three
events. Last year those three regattas had 8, 6, and 5 races respectively, so
in all likelihood, sailing in any two will qualify you for the award. Anybody
want to donate a perpetual trophy? We'll also have "fun awards" as
usual at Key West. More to come on that.
I've attached a (lightly edited) e-mail from Robert Baker (PLANET B, Toronto),
who gives some excellent advice.
As always, let me know if you have any questions. (Most of the frequently asked

Subject: Key West Advice
Date: Mon, 06 Oct 2003 08:13:40 -0400
I provide you the following advice and reasoning.
I go to Charleston because it's free storage - and safe. They're nice there
- and it's a great city to visit and a fun regatta in April as a season warmup.
Also, not very expensive as US based regattas go. But of course, I drive myself
so that makes a difference.
One guiding principle I have is NEVER TOW MY BOAT WHEN THEIR IS A CHANCE OF
SNOW!!! Don't even think about it. So I'm go down in November and back in April.
PLANET B never sees the snow. If you contract with someone to tow your boat
around - why have him tow it in January??? You can't put it on the island anyway.
So pick a spot in the US where it's warm and leave it there. Why not pick a
FREE spot?
The first year I went down I stored PLANET B at a marina in Naples Florida -
which cost me about $250 per month for 2 months. It was quite secure. There
are probably better places.
I know of no place in Key West to store the boat inexpensively before the regatta.
In January, FastTrack opens up the Truman Annex and it is available. Beforehand
- they store their boats in some other area (State).
Contact them about storage ... or contact Nelson Weiderman our class secretary
who will know what all the other guys do. (I've copied him on this email).
I recommend contacting the NEW Fasttrack (FT Yacht Services, LLC http://www.fasttrackys.com/)
which is run by the some of the same guys as the old one. They are doing the
mast in/launch at Key West at the Truman Annex, which cost about $500 total
and is the best way to go. Get an email in to them with a reserve. If you're
booking them to tow your boat - you'll get this anyway.
I recommend you stay at the Key West Bight Marina (Historic Seaport). Contact
Terry at 305-296-3838 for a fax form to sign up. Get the RAFT option for J105's.
We raft 3 beside each other - it's fine.
I book a condo-villa in the Key West Golf Course each year. Contact http://www.athomeinkeywest.com
for information on available condos. Get one with the most beds and most bathrooms
available (I have a 3 1/2 bedroom - 3 bathroom thing for about $4279 for 11
days.)
You should seriously think about going to Charleston. See http://www.charlestonboatworks.com/aboutus.php.
The guy to talk to is John Spence, He may be able to arrange towing to Key West
from his place. He does it (with drivers) for a number of boats. They will also
do prep services, wax topsides, clean/spray hull, gelcoat work, whatever.
Also, don't forget to add Key West to your insurance poolicy for the dates of
the regatta. It only costs me an extra $300 CDN both Key West and Charleston
events including a towing rider.
Best advice yet: GET in touch with Nelson to ask him for recommendations.
Good luck. Remember: Key West Race Week is touted as the most fun the male human
body can withstand. So make sure you get in shape for the best regatta in the
world.

Key West Sailors & friends:
I now have 32 "confirmed" (twelve are listed as already entered on
Premiere-Racing's list as of 10/31) and two still possible as follows:
The 32 "confirmed":
MASQUERADE, ECLIPSE, GUMPTION3, ADDICTION, MAX POWER, PHANTOM, BLUE MAX, PIPPIN,
PLANET B, CYAN, UNBRIDLED, FLAME, ZUNI BEAR, REVELATION, WET LEOPARD, ABSOLUTELY!,
KINCSEM, WET PAINT, STARCROSS, GIGI, DEAD ON ARRIVAL, PAPERMOON, PUFFIN, HAZE
III, IT WASN'T ME, VITESSE EXTREME, SAVASANA, NO FACE 2 FACE, CHARSAR, GHOST,
RUM AT SIX, MACK DADDY.
Still "possible":
HOT WATER, GONZO.
Lots of news to report this edition as a result of the Class Annual Meeting
of the Executive Committee and other developments. Let's do it by the numbers:
1. We will be inspecting all the boats. We are arranging for a place at the
Historic Seaport that everybody can bring their boats to for inspection on a
schedule on Saturday and Sunday. This is as a direct result of feedback that
we have received wishing for greater enforcement of the rules.
2. We are arranging to have giant J/105 "battle flags" that will be
available at cost (or better). Can pick up when we inspect you.
3. We will most likely invoke new rule submission #5 (if it passes), which allows
you to pull a used backup jib out of your sail locker if it really blows hard
on any given day (to preserve your new jibs).
4. There has been a very generous private donation of a perpetual "President's
Southern Circuit Trophy". We are designing it now and we will have plates
engraved for the 2004 class president, the winner of the Southern Circuit and
a participation award for someone who participates in all three regattas. More
to come on this. The buzz is up for SORC and Charleston. I'm reorganizing the
web page to including these and adding two more columns to the entry list to
fill in for whoever is planning to sail in those two regattas. Please send me
e-mail if you are interested so I can record who is thinking about SORC and
CRW to compete for the new President's Trophy!
5. The social event is being planned by Kevin Grainger (GUMPTION3) and Karen
Hall-Yingling (J Concierge). I'm hearing good things.
6. We will have "fun awards" for the third year. For those who are
new, this is for boats who do not otherwise win the standard Premiere-Racing
awards. As soon as you win silver from Premiere-Racing, you are dismissed from
the fun awards. Here are the categories for this year:
--Mixed Gender (at least two crew of each gender)
--Family (husband-wife, siblings, parent-child, or grandparent-grandchild)
--Five Aboard (sailing all races with five or fewer crew)
--Greybeard (at least two crew 50 years or older)
--Newbies (first time to Key West with a J/105)
--Unqualified (not qualified for at least two of the above awards)
--Improvement (boat that most improved from first to last day of racing, aka
the PLANET B award)
Rules:
1. You can register for two of the first six for a flat $10 fee.
2. As a bonus, everyone is registered for the seventh award ($100 gift certificate)
automatically (a total of three chances to win).
3. If you win daily or weekly silver from Premiere Racing you are dismissed
from the competition.
4. If you win a fun award (given in order from most to least entrants), you
are dismissed from subsequent fun awards.
I had some good suggestions last year prior to nailing these down, so I'd like
to hear of any suggested refinements to these criteria and rules.
Updates will start to come a little faster now. For next time, I'll have on-line
forms that you can use to register for the fun, register your crews, and register
your sails.
There are posts on the FORUM about people looking to crew (in addition to the
several owners looking for spots).

After one drop (ABSOLUTELY!) and two adds (HOT WATER, WINDSHADOW) we're up to
33 BOATS as follows:
The 33 "confirmed":
MASQUERADE, ECLIPSE, GUMPTION3, ADDICTION, MAX POWER, PHANTOM, BLUE MAX, PIPPIN,
PLANET B, CYAN, UNBRIDLED, HOT WATER, FLAME, ZUNI BEAR, REVELATION, WET LEOPARD,
KINCSEM, WET PAINT, STARCROSS, WINDSHADOW, GIGI, DEAD ON ARRIVAL, PAPERMOON,

GHOST, RUM AT SIX, MACK DADDY.
Does anybody know anything about GONZO? All attempts to reach them have failed.
Appropriate choice of name, I guess.
After the last update, I received a request to make the schedule for inspections
available as soon as possible. So I've set up an on-line signup for that. It
will only take a minute to enter your time. I've set aside noon until six on
Saturday and noon to 2 and 4 to six on Sunday. That should allow you all to
practice whenever you like as long as you sign up early. Here's the direct link:
http://j105.org/KWRW2004/inspections.php.
The trophy for the President's Southern Circuit has been ordered. It will be
displayed at the JBoats tent all week, will also be displayed at SORC, and finally
be awarded in March after Charleston Race Week. (The inspection form also asks
about your participation plans.)
In addition to the regular Premiere-Racing awards and our "fun awards"
we have a new trick up our sleeve. In the tradition of cycling's "yellow
jersey" we will have the defending champion carry a huge "yellow battle
flag" out to the course on Monday. Each day this flag will pass to the
Regatta leader, who will fly it out and back to the course, until on the final
day it will be presented to the winner to use for the year until they defend
the following year.
I'll try to have the registration materials for sails, crew, and fun in a couple
of weeks.

Hi Nelson - My wife Trudie Ficks has decided she would like to crew at KWRW
preferably on a 105. Her bio is wt. 148, age 59, and she has sailed on my
boat many times. She sailed in the last two Rolex Women's World Keel Boat
Championship, skippering her J22, finishing mid fleet this year. Trudie is a
fine sailor and very focused. Very good in the middle of the boat. Great at
keeping track of the numbers.
She is local so needs no sleeping accommodations. We have learned our way
around town and like it down here and would be glad to help the newcomers.
If one of the boats looses a person, has an injury, or has a weight
problem, Trudie could fill in at the last minute. It looks like a great
turnout. As I said earlier, if you need help let me know.

Subject: Key West Race Week 2004 -- Update #10
Key West Sailors & friends:
It looks like 29 after late scratches from CYAN and IT WASN'T ME. All 29 are
registered with Premiere-Racing. All 29 have signed up for inspection times.
Only about 7-8 have completed all the declarations for sails, crew, and fun.
I'll start reminding the stragglers next week, but if you know who your crew
is and what sails you are going to be using, please visit http://j105.org/KWRW2004/
and fill out the on-line forms there.
We have just placed a large order for some "battle flags". These are
7'x7' red flags with a white J/105 logo on them from the same supplier and with
the same design as the flags that JBoats flies at the boat shows. They are very
high quality. Normally these sell for $135 or more and we are going to be selling
them at cost, $75. You can buy them when you have your inspection. How great
would it be to have 29 boats going out to the course with common battle flags
flying? Remember, great publicity (with photo op) keeps the resale value of
your boats high! If you are interested, please let me know so that I can have
the appropriate number of flags in Key West. We will also make these available
at the same price for fleet purchases.
I now have in hand the President's Southern Circuit Trophy and will have it
on display all week at the JBoats tent. I've also put a photo and the Deed of
Gift on the website. Here's the direct link: http://www.j105.org/KWRW2004/SCTrophy.html
Thanks to Robert Baker for providing a couple of headstay measurement jigs.
Attached is a recent message from Chris Groobey about spectator boats.
For the archives check http://j105.org/KWRW2004/. I have just uploaded the list
of entries and the status of all paperwork.
Cheers,
Nelson

Nelson,
Hope you had a good Christmas.
Would you please consider posting the following information in the next Key
West update?
You've probably seen on the forum that there is some interest from non-racers
in being able to get out on the water. We, for example, have a bunch of spouses
and friends who would like to have access to a boat to check out the racing
and/or go fishing, snorkeling, etc.
There's a guy from Terra Nova who has his 26-foot RIB on the Premiere Racing
site. It will hold 18 people. He will charter it out for $800 per day in KW,
including driver and fuel. That's obviously pretty rich but perhaps 10 people
would like to get together and charter one or more days. I think we would probably
have four or so people who would want to join that group. Would you mind sending
this out to the KW people, and perhaps also soliciting other ideas on how to
get people on the water (perhaps other boats have tenders that would be willing
to take fellow 105 people)? I'm happy to organize if it's helpful. Many thanks.
Best regards,

Subject: Key West Race Week -- Update #11
Key West Sailors & friends:
We're keeping track of a lot of paper (coming in fast now), so if we missed
some, please understand. Here is the current status (as reflected currently
on our web site under "entries"):
All declarations submitted (14):
ECLIPSE, ADDICTION, MAX POWER, BLUE MAX, UNBRIDLED, HOT WATER, STARCROSS, DEAD
ON ARRIVAL, PAPERMOON, HAZE III, SAVASANA, CHARSAR, GHOST, MACK DADDY.
Some declarations submitted (9):
MASQUERADE, GUMPTION3, PLANET B, REVELATION, WET PAINT, WINDSHADOW, GIGI, PUFFIN,
RUM AT SIX.
No declarations submitted (6): FLAME, ZUNI BEAR, WET LEOPARD, KINCSEM, VITESSE
EXTREME, NO FACE 2 FACE.
If you are on list 2 or 3, please check the web site for what you are missing.
There are more than 15 boats from KW expressing interest in both SORC and Charleston
Race Week. If you are going to SORC, it's time to start thinking about logistics
and entries.
The inspections will be at two finger piers at the dock in front of the Conch
Republic Seafood Co (#10 on the sitemap at Premiere-Racing http://www.premiere-racing.com/KW04logos/KW04_sitemap.jpg
and not to be confused with "D" the Conch Harbor Marina). For KW veterans, that
where the 1D35s used to hang when you walked down to the Galleon. This year
look for lots of J/80s there. We will be inspecting at the end of H-1 between
finger piers 1 and 2 (at the outer end). We are on a very tight schedule and
there is no place to raft while waiting to take the inspection slip, so the
best advice is to arrive promptly at the appointed time. To refresh your memory,
we will be checking floatlines (and certificates), sail tags, headstays, lifelines,
and required equipment. Sails should be off the headstay and the boom.
Your inspection team will be yours truly, Association President Bob Smith, and
Steve Tedeschi with backup from Jeff Johnstone and Joerg Esdorn.
I have battle flag orders from PLANET B, REVELATION, UNBRIDLED, BLUE MAX, and
CHAR SAR. Racers who see growing and competitive fleets at Key West are likely
to carry that message home to their clubs, which helps your home fleets grow
and benefits us all. And the flags will make us much more visible especially
at the Marina where they can be hoisted before and after racing. Still taking
orders! For everything KWRW check http://j105.org/KWRW2004/.
Next week I'll give you the lowdown on the weather. Remember last year?
Cheers,
Nelson

Key West Sailors & friends:
The stars are aligning and the electrons are flowing. Only a few stragglers here and there.
All declarations submitted (20):
ECLIPSE, ADDICTION, MAX POWER, BLUE MAX, UNBRIDLED, HOT WATER, KINCSEM, WET PAINT, STARCROSS, WINDSHADOW, GIGI, DEAD ON ARRIVAL, PAPERMOON, HAZE III, SAVASANA, NO FACE 2 FACE, CHARSAR, GHOST, RUM AT SIX, MACK DADDY.
Some declarations missing (3):
PLANET B (sails), REVELATION (sails), WET LEOPARD (crew).
Not competing (yet) for fun awards (7):
MASQUERADE, GUMPTION3, FLAME, ZUNI BEAR, WET LEOPARD, PUFFIN, VITESSE EXTREME.
If you are on list 2, please try to submit declarations by Thursday. You also need to get the fun entries in by then. I'm leaving before dawn on Friday.
PLANET B, REVELATION, UNBRIDLED, BLUE MAX, CHAR SAR, ADDICTION, GHOST, GUMPTION3, GIGI, HAZE III have signed up for battle flags. You can pay me when you get inspected if you have not paid already. I had a chance to see the prototype of one. These are sweet.
Ah, the weather. I was accustomed at this time to tell you how Key West was never cold like the rest of south Florida (it's only 50 miles from Cuba). But last year there were record lows and people pulled out the ski hats and gloves on Friday. So bring something warm and we will have seasonal temperatures again this year. Shorts and t-shirts are good for most days. You might need something warmer at night. Wind? I've seen it all. It could blow or it could be light (or nil). Keeps you guessing from day to day. Be prepared for anything.
Whatever you do, do not miss our party at the JBoats hospitality tent on Thursday at 5:00 for pizza, beer & the fun awards. Crews and all significant ones are welcome. We'll also have the new Southern Circuit Trophy on display. Please thank Karen and Kevin for organizing this.
For everything KWRW check http://j105.org/KWRW2004/. I'll do daily commentary and be out on the course when I can.
Travel safely. See you at the inspection dock. My cell phone is 401-595-4071.
Cheers,
Nelson

Nelson,
Would you please include the following in your next Key West update?
Thanks.
--Chris Groobey
The Gumption and Rum'n'Java teams have rented a 23-foot center console power
boat for Sunday through Saturday of Key West. The boat will be docked at
the Historic Seaport Marina near the 105s. Friends and family of the two
boats will be using it for race watching, snorkeling, etc. during the week.
They are happy to have others in the 105 community join the gang as the boat
holds 8. Only request is that everyone chip in to the daily cost of the
boat ($300 per day divided by however many people are on board). It may
also be available for an entire day one or two days during the regatta if
you'd like to have the boat to yourself. If interested, contact Chris
Groobey by email (chris@groobey.com) or cell (703-201-9945).
